Hip Cross Carry
Instructions |
These instructions will work with wraparound style baby carriers
like the Didymos,
EllaRoo,
Girasol,
Kabuki,
Extra Long
Rebozo and more.
The hip cross carry is the most secure and, I think, most comfortable
hip carry ever. It also requires relatively little fabric, for a
secure wraparound style carry. Most people can do it with 3.6 m.
The sling shown below is a 2.6 m #18 Girasol Wraparound baby carrier.
(The model is a size 4 dress, and the 2.6 m is just long enough
for her to use this way.)
Fold
the fabric in half lengthwise. This makes the fabric easier to handle
while tying the wrap.
Drape the fabric over one shoulder.
As with all one-shouldered carrying positions, it is best to alternate
shoulders periodically, to avoid stressing one shoulder.
Cross
the fabric at the opposite hip.
Bring
the fabric back around your waist, and tie the fabric in a square
knot at the hip.
You can now see the X that will form your child's seat. The legs
are going to poke through the sides of the X (see below).
Lean
your child against your shoulder (as if you were going to burp her)
and insert her into the X, one leg through each side of the X.
You
can see in this picture how the X is supporting the baby's bottom.
Spread
the fabric under her bottom, first the inner part (as shown), then
the outer part.
When
you are done, the fabric will be spread so that the child is supported
from the knees to the middle/upper back.
The fabric at the shoulder can be spread across the shoulder cap,
or can sit on top of the shoulder (as shown).
