Happy March!
I hope this letter finds you all well.
I have been hearing lately from many mamas who are looking
for ways to make traveling with an infant easier. Long plane
trips were difficult enough without multiple X-rays and
searches. Well, I'm here to report our findings!
After rigorous field testing by qualified experts (moms,
of course), the best solution seems to be a Baby
Pouch, including the Maya Wrap Adjustable Baby Pouch and the New Native Baby Pouch.
It's small enough to fit in a shoulder bag; it's easy to
get the baby or toddler in and out; it can be put on, taken
off, and worn while sitting; baby can nurse (very important
while taking off and landing); and best of all, several
of us have gotten through X-ray machines without having
to remove our babies from the sling! Because the pouch does
not have any metal to trigger the alarm, some security agents
will just peek in the sling and let you both pass (of course,
it depends on the crew working the machines at the time).
Joy of joys. And just to top it off, no more wrestling with
a stroller at the end of the gangway.
So next time you are planning a trip, consider popping
your little one in your baby pouch!
New German Girasol wraparound baby carrier
We are very excited to announce that we have added a new
wraparound baby carrier, called the Girasol
(in picture above). This carrier is a more affordable version
of the Didymos, with very similar vibrant colors. While
they come from Germany, they are hand-woven in the Guatemalan
highlands. So is this a German carrier, or a Guatemalan
carrier? I prefer to call it German, because the carrying
style is more German than Guatemalan. (The Guatemalans,
like many Latin Americans, use Rebozos.)
Guatemalan Indians (the Maya) are world renowned for their
skill
as weavers. Their colorful cotton fabrics are immediately
identifiable, and highly sought after. Most importantly
for our purposes, it is very difficult to duplicate the
particular stretch qualities by machine-weaving fabrics.
Wraparound baby carriers are the most versatile carriers
available. The Girasol is woven with stretch in the diagonal,
which allows for extended carrying comfort for both participants.
And because the carrier is worn over both shoulders, it
is perfect for people with shoulder, neck, or back problems
that may keep them from using one-shouldered slings.
