Some of you may notice that the look of the newsletter has changed. We migrated to a new system, to make it easier for everyone to manage their preferences, and for me to manage the newsletter (over 700 and counting!). Enjoy!

  • Baby Wearing the World Over
    .
We have added a wonderful book this month, called A Ride on Mother's Back, by Durga Bernhard and Emery Bernhard (see discount below). Although this is technically a children's book, with lovely illustrations, it is a very interesting survey of baby wearing around the world.

Many of us baby slingers feel as if we are recapturing some lost art form. This book helps us connect with traditional cultures (which may include some of our own ethnic backgrounds), and will make your little one feel a part of a larger world, once they can read it with you.

They illustrate and talk a bit about 12 different cultures, giving an brief example of a typical day. We see babies on mothers' (and other family members') backs in Guatemala, Bali, central and western Africa, Saraha, Canada (Inuits), Thailand, Amazon, Kathmandu, Papua New Guinea, the Andes, and Native America.

The precise methods used may vary across cultures and time, but it seems clear that baby wearing is a viable solution for busy parents of all stripes. It is possible to combine high touch parenting with the needs of everyday living. You are a part of a grand tradition!

How are we doing? I like to hear and see how your slings are working out for you. If you get a spare moment in your busy, busy schedules, I would love a note and a picture.

If you like what you have read here, I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward this to a friend - or two!

Thanks for your support! And have a good month.
